When my first book came out, it carved a path for my creative work. I felt like I could keep going and put out more poetry and art.
I knew early on how I wanted the layout to look and how the poetry would flow. The art direction was determined as soon as the idea of a second book came to me. While creating, I took the Hajj pilgrimage trip with my parents. It was the last thing I ever got to do with my father. After it was all done, it felt like my words were bursting through my chest and onto the pages.
If you’re grieving or trying to reconcile conflicting elements of your identity, this might be your perfect Sunday afternoon. Available here.
Written, curated and designed by me, this anthology is my proudest work. For the cover jacket, I patched and embroidered denim by hand. The design represents heritage, generations and simply, heart.
This anthology flows like a poetry feed, and the art faces it on the opposite page, acting like a ‘camera roll.’ This layout is referenced in one of the poems in the book, and says a lot about the concept and state of mind of the work.
Contains: A foreword, 52 poems, dozens of tile drawings, 18 scene drawings and an afterword.
The Moon from Where We Stood (2024)
I spent years with the pieces of this book, trying to put them together and give the decade I spent in Beirut some beautiful meaning. It ended up reflecting the darkness of the economic collapse in Lebanon, and the social turmoil that occurred because of it. But in such early youth, even the darkest of times can’t dim innocent hope. I still feel it when I read this anthology.
It’s gritty and imperfect. It couldn’t encapsulate my life and feelings more perfectly. I left it purposefully rough around the edges because just like it taught me how to write again, it was meant to teach me how to put together and put out a good book.
It took me a while to find my creative direction, and I credit today’s work and any work I may do later to The Moon from Where We Stood. This anthology includes various pieces of poetry and song lyrics as well as hand-drawn images that I retraced digitally for the book.
Released independently through Amazon. If you’re interested in a peek at what it felt like to live in 2010s Beirut and the tense sequence of events that ended with the 2020 Beirut explosion, purchase below.
Legend of the Woodlander
At the risk of overselling, I must say this is my most cherished work and the story that I have been obsessed with for over three years. I can’t stop thinking about it and I nerd out at just the thought of it. It’s the coolest and most fun book I’ve ever read. If you’re a nerd like me; into gaming, adventure, fantasy stories about oppression, friendship and coming of age, this novel will blow your socks off. And oh… It’s part of a series.
