Knightenly and Melhem Hasan are my writing aliases for fiction and poetry, respectively.
I studied Civil and Environmental Engineering at Beirut Arab University in 2010 till 2015 although I had no passion for it. After taking a year away, I realized I wanted to pursue a degree in journalism. I studied Mass Communication at Beirut Arab University in 2016 till 2019.
Following my graduation, I took several courses at Al-Jazeera Media Institute in Doha, Qatar — including Novel Writing. My passion for writing had already been relit by the passing of my cat, and I had been writing songs and poems. I’d originally intended to record music, but I didn’t have the skill at the time. My early works ended up on my debut, The Moon from Where We Stood (2024).
By 2022, I was completely dedicated to my writing, and relied on side gigs and freelance work to make a living while I focus on my career as a writer. In 2025, my work was included on This Queer Arab Family, a book by Elias Jahshan, published by Saqi Books. I completed my second poetry and illustrations project, Irreplicable Magic, and the draft of my debut in fiction, Legend of the Woodlander.
My writing is often personal and melancholic. I am inspired by grief, Middle Eastern heritage and the plague of war.
